Some of the best wellness experiences begin before you even arrive, and that was exactly the case with our visit to QC Spa on Governors Island. From the moment the day started, it felt like we were stepping into a slower, more intentional rhythm.
We decided to drive to the ferry terminal and had reserved a spot in the nearby parking garage a few days ahead of time. Even so, parking was not exactly seamless. After about 15 minutes of showing our reservation and waiting while the attendants worked around a full lot, we were finally able to park. Thankfully, the garage was extremely convenient to the ferry, so once that part was behind us, the rest of the day unfolded easily.
The ferry ride over was less than 10 minutes, but it was enough to create that lovely sense of transition. You could enjoy the ride from inside or outside, and either way it offered a peaceful moment to take in the water and prepare for the calm that was waiting on the island.
We went on a weekday, so there were fewer food options available, but that ended up being perfectly fine because we were already excited to try Makina Cafe NYC, the Ethiopian food truck we had spotted on the [Plan Your Visit](insert link) site beforehand. It was absolutely delicious. I ordered the chicken bowl, and all the flavors came together like a new symphony—bold, vibrant, and unlike anything my taste buds had experienced before.
After lunch, we headed to QC Spa, where the staff made the check-in process feel easy and welcoming, especially as a first-time visitor. We were guided through our reservation, given our wristbands and locker assignments, and sent off to begin the experience. The robes provided were soft and comfortable, though I was personally glad I had the option to wear my own sandals instead of the spa flip-flops. Even the locker room felt elevated, beautifully designed and stocked with thoughtful touches like anti-aging cream and antioxidant cream.
The pool area was somehow even more gorgeous in person than in the photos. Sitting in the water with that sweeping city view in front of us felt like a cool oxymoron—urban energy paired with total calm—and it created one of those moments where you really have to stop and take it all in. The cabanas, the pools, and the skyline together made the whole setting feel striking and memorable.
I had also added a massage to my package, and it ended up being the perfect next step after relaxing in the pool. The wellness theme carried beautifully into the massage waiting area, where little details made the experience feel even more intentional. While waiting for the masseuse, there were dried and fresh fruits, nuts, small chocolate chip cookies, and fruit-infused ice water set out as snacks. It was such a pleasant little space that next time I might actually arrive early just to enjoy that part a bit longer. I highly recommend the massage. If you choose the 25-minute option, you can select whether you want the focus to be on your upper or lower body. I chose upper body, and by the time I left, my upper back and shoulders felt like butter.
As we continued exploring, one thing became clear very quickly: this spa is massive. Compared to some of the smaller spas I have visited, QC Spa almost felt like a cruise ship—not only because of its size, but because there always seemed to be another room, feature, or experience to discover. And much like a cruise ship, there was a whole variety of things to enjoy depending on your mood. We found ourselves in the swinging chair room and, of course, had to stop and take a seat for a while. From there, we made our way to the waterbed room, where warm waterbeds were waiting and delivered one of the best naps I have ever had in my life. I woke up fully understanding the urge to somehow take the bed home with me.
We booked the five-hour pass, which felt like a great amount of time for the experience, though I can absolutely see the appeal of an all-day pass if you really want to settle in and try everything at a slower pace. Going on a weekday definitely helped us avoid overwhelming crowds, but we also noticed that earlier arrivals seemed to get the better seats and cabanas near the pools—again, very much like a cruise ship in that way.
It was a beautiful day and, yes, a little on the pricier side since you are paying for admission as well as any add-ons. Still, with the number of rooms, wellness experiences, thoughtful details, and those stunning views, I could see the value. In my opinion, the setting and variety of experiences helped justify the cost. Overall, it was a beautiful experience from start to finish, and it is absolutely somewhere I look forward to returning to.
